This traditional method uses a spudder, steel wire rope hooked to a heavy drill stem, and a bit that \u201cpounds\u201d a hole into the ground. Wells can take one to several days to complete depending on the area and geology present. It may not be the fastest way, but it&#8217;s proven, reliable, and allows us to accurately identify all formations that are encountered during drilling. It also ensures a clean, straight hole. Casing is advanced behind the bit to keep the borehole open and prevent collapsing. This process is repeated until sufficient water is found whether in sand\/gravel veins or ideally in bedrock. The casing is also grouted to prevent surface water contamination.
