Why do we still use this old technology? Simple, it is the tried and true method for drilling water wells. We believe it is the method that will produce the best results. While cable tool rigs have a much slower drill speed compared to other types of rotary drill rigs we think the slower speed is time well spent. We know how important it is to spend that extra time to give you the peace of mind knowing you have the best, most reliable well you could possibly have!
Some of the advantages of cable tool drilling are:
And more! Please check out more history and a more in depth look at the advantages to cable tool drilling here More About Cable Tool Drilling
Right from the start, the owner John will come out to your property for a free consultation. He will answer any questions you have and explain how cable tool drilling works.
We’ll talk about your water needs, your vision for the well, and we will take a good look at the land and assess the local geology. After considering all necessary factors we will determine the best placement for your well.
Once we have a good understanding of your needs, we will provide you with a detailed estimate outlining estimated well depth, the well diameter, casing material, costs for pump & system installation and any additional services like water testing. We believe in upfront communication and clear pricing, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
Before drilling begins we will:
Once all preliminary steps are completed we will bring our cable tool rig to your site. This traditional method uses a spudder, steel wire rope hooked to a heavy drill stem, and a bit that “pounds” a hole into the ground. Wells can take one to several days to complete depending on the area and geology present. It may not be the fastest way, but it’s proven, reliable, and allows us to accurately identify all formations that are encountered during drilling. It also ensures a clean, straight hole. All of these advantages allow us to better identify water bearing zones.
As the bit drills into the ground cuttings are bailed out of the hole as needed. Casing is advanced behind the bit to keep the borehole open and prevent collapsing. This process is repeated until sufficient water is found whether in sand/gravel veins or ideally in bedrock. The casing is also grouted to prevent surface water contamination. We follow all industry & health departments standards, and use only approved practices in the construction of your water well to ensure the best quality.
After drilling we go through a process called well development. Development removes any sediment and gets the well producing the most water possible. We will pump test your well to determine the gallons per minute of water production. Also during development we take samples of the water. This gives us an idea of the water quality and minerals present. The information gathered during drilling & development is recorded on a well completion report which is then submitted to the NYS DEC and you the well owner. As a final step we will disinfect the well.
We will also collect a final sample that can be sent out to a certified laboratory for complete analysis.
After development is complete your well is ready for pump installation! In addition to drilling we can handle your complete system installation.
We understand that every property is unique, and are here to ensure your well installation is a smooth experience. From clear consistent communication, and upfront estimates to the time-tested reliability of cable tool drilling. We are committed to providing you with exceptional service and a well that will serve your family for generations to come. Contact us today, and let’s get started on bringing fresh water to your tap!
